Google explains Email’s journey with story of SEND

We send and receive a lots of emails every day. But have we ever wondered  How does an email travel from our computer to our friend’s smartphone across the country or around the world?

Take a journey through Google’s data centers by following an email along its path.


Google has launched Story of Send, an interactive site that shows how your emails travels from your PC/tablets/smartphones to its destination.

  • In this Google gives you a behind-the-scene look into how all the virtual data travels through the real world- from your internet service provider to Google’s data centers and beyond.
  • It also tells how they filter out spams and scan for virsues.
  • And how they are minimizing the impact on the environment throught their envery efficiency and renewable power.

“Google runs some of the greenest data centers in the world. In fact, we’re the first major Internet services company to gain external certification of our high environmental standards. One way we save energy is by keeping the temperature on our server floors at a warm 80 degrees. That means we don’t need as much energy-intensive air-conditioning, and our employees get to wear shorts to work.”  Google explaining how it saves energy and keeps its data centers up to high environmental standards in the site.
