Nokia smartphone users in Delhi, Mumbai to get traffic updates

by · March 30, 2012

Nokia announced the launch of real-time traffic update for its smartphone users in Mumbai and Delhi.

Nokia said the traffic update is available to users on Symbian smartphones on Nokia Drive, and on Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710 on Nokia Maps. Upon download the user can study the traffic situation in real time and subsequently plan a route.

The service can be activated by updating the map application. The service is currently available for Delhi and Mumbai and Nokia claims it has covered 1,500 km of roads across these two cities.

Powered by NAVTEQ Traffic Pro real-time traffic service, the traffic feature offers superior coverage with detailed information on traffic speeds on motorways, main and secondary roads to enable accurate estimated arrival times helping consumers save time, fuel and frustration.

NAVTEQ Traffic Pro aggregates and analyses traffic data from several sources, including the world’s largest compilation of both commercial and consumer probe data, the world’s largest fixed proprietary sensor network, event-based data collected from government sources, and extensive historical traffic records.

But one cannot be sure about the accuracy of this, as they will be tracking the situation by monitoring other Nokia users who are using location services on the phones at any given time.
